What Kind of Impact Can the Gospel Have in India?

In India, we have the apostle Thomas himself who brought the gospel some 2000 years back. But we are yet to see the deeper and wider impact of the gospel in our country.

What could be the reason?

Obviously, the there’s so many competing cultural, social, religious values and beliefs that tend to hinder the gospel and its fruit in our country.

But it could also be because as a culture, we’ve not really realized and experienced the power of the gospel and its implications to every area of our life.

The gospel is not just something that’s intellectual, but it is a personal and powerful experience of Christ and the Spirit. The gospel is not something that we have it in our heads, but it is something that we sense in our hearts, and it’s something that flows into all areas of our life. How does the gospel truth and its wonderful privileges of justification and sanctification, the truth about our redemption and salvation, the privilege of being adopted as a children of God, the sacrifice of Christ on the cross is substitutionary atonement the propagation for our sins?

How do these wonderful truths of the gospel shape our life? How does it shape our marriage? How we think about money and entertainment? How does it shape our friendships, our careers?

This is a unique challenge for us in India to be able to see the gospel and its impact in all of these areas of our lives. As the gospel becomes central to our lives, it begins to shape our lives, our hearts, and we turn from being complacent followers of Christ to becoming committed disciples. Just like during the Reformation, our generation needs to rediscover the gospel to our context and to be able to present this gospel in a way that is true and good and beautiful.
